Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. Recognized for Exemplary Workplace Safety
6/24/2010
Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc. (SBI) receives two key safety awards from the North Carolina Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
Recognized for exemplary safety record and one million hours without an OSHA recordable incident
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., USA —
Syngenta Biotechnology, Inc., (SBI)
recently received two distinguished Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) awards from the
N.C. Department of Labor
. The company, which is based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. and focuses on plant biotechnology and crop genetics, was formally recognized for achieving both the annual safety award and the million-hour safety award at a regional banquet earlier this month.
SBI received the annual gold level award for achieving an exemplary safety record in 2009, a qualification achieved by less than one percent of North Carolina companies. SBI also received recognition for reaching one million employee hours without an OSHA recordable incident, a feat accomplished by only one in 3,300 companies in a given year.
“We are very proud of these awards and would like to thank the N.C. Department of Labor for this recognition,” said Bill Hlavac, head of site operations for SBI. “We strive to create a safe and healthy work environment, and as our company continues to grow, we hope the community continues to see SBI as a responsible corporate citizen and a great place to work.”
The N.C. Department of Labor safety awards program recognizes private and public companies throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records. To qualify for an annual safety award, a company must have had no fatalities at the site or location for which the award was given and have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below average for its industry.
The gold level safety award, which factors in days away from work, restricted activity and job transfer as a result of workplace incident, is the top-level award for annual safety.
Million-hour safety awards recognize companies that clock one million employee hours without incidence of injury or illness involving days away from work.
SBI was founded with the principle of delivering innovation in plant gene technology and serves as the key North American location for plant biotechnology research and development for
Syngenta
. The company, which employs approximately 400 people, recently moved into a new 100,000 square foot facility at Keystone Office Park as part of a long-term growth plan that will supplement the existing Cornwallis Drive facility.
Syngenta is one of the world's leading companies with more than 25,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to our purpose: Bringing plant potential to life.
